Changing Hands Bookstore Is A Tempe, Arizona Treasure And A Book Lover’s Best Friend
IT USUALLY HAPPENS during one of our regularly scheduled Client Service Calls. These are after the close of escrow calls we make to our clients to see how things are going. After spending weeks and sometimes months with our clients helping them find the home of their dreams, we like to make ourselves available for any questions they may have about their new homes or anything else.
We have found our clients have a lot of questions about their new neighborhood. Or, if they are from out of town, our clients need to know
some things about part of the Valley where they bought their new home.
Most of the questions have nothing to do with the home we just helped then buy. Instead, people want the name of good Italian restaurant, a talented car guy, or a great hairdresser. We love these requests. It helps us to continue to be of service to our clients and to drum up business for our affiliates. There are always have several recommendations we can make for most services.
However, when a client says, “I am sick and tired of these giant corporate bookstores around here. Where can I go to find a real bookstore?”
“You have got to go to Changing Hands Bookstore!” is my only response.
I LOVE this bookstore. It is a true book lovers delight that has been taking care of bibliophiles’ needs for almost 35 years. I have been getting lost in its aisles for over fourteen years ever since I came to Arizona and posed this question to a fellow New York transplant – “Where can I go to find a real bookstore in this town?”
What do you want to do? Visit other planets? Look at a wet cat? Maybe you would prefer to build a zen garden. How about my favorite thing to do… chat with Captain Kirk . Changing Hands is the place for all this and much, much more.
Changing Hands Bookstore will allow you to get in touch with your inner wine snob, buy an artisan coffee mug, pick up some hand-rolled incense from India, find an obscure, or perhaps some would say awful, poetry magazine, a birthday card, a snarky t-shirt, you name it.
Changing Hands was once located near ASU on Mill Avenue. They outgrew that space a while ago and are now located in South Tempe in a shopping plaza on the southwest corner of McClintock and Guadalupe.
They offer poetry readings, writers workshops, tarot card readings, book signings, book club get togethers and dozens of other store sponsored events.
I would like to join the Devouring Divas Book Club but I am a little intimidated to call up and learn how to join. Besides, my wife said I am not allowed to anyways. Click here for their latest Calender of Events.
