About Central Phoenix

Central Phoenix consists of a few different neighborhoods, including Downtown Phoenix, the urban centre of the entire city. Downtown Phoenix has been seeing improvements for around 10 years now, including its most recent addition, the light rail, which is expected to improve the transportation system significantly. In Downtown you will find everything from shopping to newer high-rise residential buildings to commercial buildings to government buildings and parks.

 

There are a few Villages (that’s what locals call the different “neighborhoods”) in Central Phoenix; Alhambra Village, which is located north and west of Encanto Village, where residents have a great balance of proximity to Downtown (especially employees of businesses in Downtown) with access to mountains and, for families, a good school district without having to pay steep real estate prices. This village consists of areas with ‘20s-‘30s era mini neighborhoods, also known as the Historic District.

 

Central City Village

Central City Village is the area from Salt River to McDowell Road, and from N. 48th Street to Black Canyon Highway (aka Hwy 17), and is basically the Downtown Phoenix area. Here you will find the Sky Harbor International Airport, government buildings, transportation hubs along with the cultural, recreational and convention centers. North of Downtown is Encanto Village, which was named after Encanto Park, a 222 acre historic park located almost in the heart of Downtown.

 

Besides residential areas, you will find the Heard Museum and Phoenix Art Museum, the Phoenix Theatre, Burton Barr Central Library and a portion of the Central Avenue Corridor, where high-rise residential and office developments co-exist.
